SIMPA Athletes in 2017 Asia/Oceania Championships & Youth Olympic Games Asia/Oceania Qualifiers

The 2017 Asia/Oceania Championships & Youth Olympic Games Asia/Oceania Qualifiers was held in Gotemba, Japan from 13/Sept/2017 to 18/Sept/2017, with 108 athletes from 11 countries taking part.

Ian Izree bin Md. Hairul Nazwa took part in Youth Olympic Games Asia/Oceania Qualifiers. He finished 27th place out of 29 athletes, with 634 MP points.

Kok Kiat Xuan represented Singapore in the 2017 Asia/Oceania Championships. He is the 1st athlete in Singapore who has taken all 5 disciplines in Modern Pentathlon. He scored 751 MP points, and was placed 27th out of 28 athletes.

Ian Izree and Kiat Xuan have done their best to accomplish the mission.

Despite Ian Izree's very recent foray into the sport of Modern Pentathlon and with only about half a year's training, he has shown that he's such a potential pentathlete and a great youth talent with a lot more to achieve very soon. Ian was the youngest competitor at this YOG Asia/Oceania Qualifier.

Kiat Xuan's performance is a very commendable one for Singapore Pentathlon as he's our 1st Full pentathlete to compete in the Asia-Oceania Games. Riding in this competition is the first for Kiat Xuan and only after a few months of Riding lessons in the USA. Their efforts are commendable & inspiring.

It is not an easy feat, as much effort, sacrifice, discipline, time and money has to be put in. Both athletes have made us very proud, and this inspires us to continue to reach another level.

A big thanks to Coach Mr Hairul Nazwa, for being a great mentor, Coach & Team Manager. He has taken care of every aspect of the athletes' physical & emotional needs.

Also special thanks to SportSG, The Chiam See Tong Sports Foundation and Mr. Howard Kim, for providing sports attire, funding and sports equipment, to our athletes.
